``A woman becomes naughty at the age of forty'' is the popular saying. Jokes apart , a woman starts her pre-menopausal syndromes around this time. Some women start thinking that this is the end of their physical well being and then it leads to mental depression, anxiety and some unknown fear.
It is a fact th at at this time some physiological changes start taking place along with hormone imbalances. These are unavoidable so you can't do anything about it. It may be a lot of weight gain or muscle loss, hot and cold flushes, sudden decrease in a good night's sleep, restlessness, lethargy, disinterest in life, thinning and greying of your crowning glory or a sudden growth of facial hair. It is really too disturbing.
Mood swings take you nowhere. Instead of wallowing in self pity , just try your level best to ingnore these things. Pay little or no attention to these trivial changes Physical changes are unavoidable but at the same time psychosomatic problems are very much in your hand - have control over them and try to overcome them.
Prepare yourself mentally in advance for this body cycle. You can't stop this biological clock. Face it boldly rather than making yourself miserable. Feeling old or useless is a state of mind try to keep this state away from you. Age is in your mind so always feel young.
Pay more attention to your health. Take a balanced diet with lots of milk, fresh vegetables and a variety of fruits. In addition, you must have a dose of calcium tablets as the production of calcium in your system starts decreasing at the onset of menopave. So chances of fracturing your joints and breaking bones are more. Join some good yoga class which will help you in keeping away osteoporosis (disorder of movements). ``Use it or lose it'' follow this principle.
Developing inferiority complex is the worst thing. Instead take out time for yourself. Go for morning or evening walks. Keep yourself busy with your hobbies or try to learn something which has remained an unfulfilled dream since your childhood. If you like some social work it will help you a lot. Reaching out for some deprived souls and helping them will help you by making you happy. Recognise your worth! No brooding please! Intead always have a pleasant disposition and then see how people don't even notice these unpleasant changes in your body. Don't withdraw yourself in a shell. Always keep in mind the fact that you are heading towards a total liberation.
H.R.T. (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is the latest introduction in India. Of course there are two schools of thought, so consult your gynaecologist. Awareness about it is still low in India so not many come forward and ask for it.As the rate of life expectancy among women is increased to a great extent then why not lead a healthy, tension free life? Why create problems for ourselves and make our life miserable?
At home now when your children are grown up, they don't require your help and guidance any more, your husband is still busy his career, so nobody has any time for you. Not a big deal!! Try to cut short your perpetual responsibilities and get involved in some group activities.
Menopause is not the end of your life as it was considered a few decades back.
