Waugh to seek legal aid

MELBOURNE: Australian cricketer Mark Waugh is seeking independent legal advice before agreeing to appear before a Pakistan judicial inquiry into match-fixing, the Australian Cricket Board(ACB) said today.

However, leg-spinner Shane Warne and former team manager Alan Crompton have agreed to give evidence to the inquiry in public.

Waugh, Warne and Crompton have been asked to appear before the Pakistan Commission in Melbourne on January 8 when they will be questioned about allegations that Waugh and Warne were offered money by former Pakistan captain Salim Malik to lose a match in 1994.

Walsh to miss Test

DURBAN: The beleaguered West Indies cricket team suffered a body blow today with the news that Courtney Walsh will miss the fourth Test against South Africa because of a hamstring injury.

New-ball partner Curtly Ambrose is struggling with knee and back problems which could also rule him out of the match at Newlands in Cape Town starting on Saturday.

``Courtney has a slight hamstring tear and will not be playing any cricket for seven to 10 days,'' said West Indies manager Clive Lloyd.

Walsh sustained his injury while fielding on the final day of the third Test in Durbanyesterday. South Africa won by nine wickets to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
