Missile technology transfers to China harmed US: Panel
A special panel of lawmakers which investigated US technology transfers to Beijing has concluded what has long been suspected in strategic circles: the Clinton administration's lax export policies and benign oversight vis-a-vis China, has compromised American national security and endangered other countries.

Cosmonauts on Mir ring in New Year with cognac
In keeping with tradition, Russian cosmonauts Sergei Avdeyev and Gennady Padalka will take a toast to the New Year in space. When the Kremlin clock strikes midnight, the cosmonauts will open a special thermos bottle containing 100 grams of cognac on the space station Mir.
