TMC calls for secular front in Tamil Nadu

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, JAN 1: In what is seen as an effort to form a secular front in TN, the Tamil Maanila Congress has called upon the political parties in the state which believe in secular principles to unite under one umbrella in order to protect the minorities from the ``communal onslaught of the Sangh Parivar.''

The political affairs committee of the TMC which met this morning underscored the need to mobilise and strengthen all the forces in the state that believed in national unity and integrity.

The TMC said the allies have continued to offer their support, despite the spread of nation-wide communal conflicts instigated by the RSS outfits which, it said, aimed at reaping political profit through religious fundamentalism.

Talking to mediapersons after the PAC deliberations, TMC general secretary S Peter Alphonse, MP, accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of extending its support to ``the fascist forces'' like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, which have unleashed violence against theChristian minority in Gujarat.

Appealing to the people to fully gauge the double speak of the BJP allies in Tamil Nadu, the TMC in a resolution said the allies have continued to offer their support to the BJP despite the spread of nation-wide communal conflicts instigated by the RSS outs which, it said, aimed at reaping political profit through religious fundamentalism.

The Gujarat Government has become administratively inert and inactive while the Sangh Parivar continued to demolish and set on fire churches and educational institutions run by the Christians. It is clear that the Sangh Parivar has decided to take this nation on the path of fascism, the TMC charged.

It is a matter of shame that the VHP leaders should choose to describe as `Christian conspiracy' even the act of awarding the Nobel prize to Mother Teresa and Amartya Sen, the TMC leadership regretted.
