Compensation for mishap victims hiked

AURANGABAD, JAN 1: The State Government has increased the compensation for families of the victims of Tuesday's accident at Bidkin from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi announced here today. Compensation for the injured has also been raised to Rs 5,000, he said.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Usha Kamble of Sahyadri Vidya Mandir school at Bhandup in Mumbai, who sustained severe brain injuries in the smash-up, continues to be critical. Doctors treating her at the Government Medical College and Hospital here, say the girl's chances of survival are slim.Sixteen persons died when a truck carrying labourers ripped through a bus carrying school children from Mumbai at Bidkin, 20 km from Aurangabad city. Twenty-eight persons were injured, including eight students, a school attendant and 19 labourers. Several of them are still being treated here.
