Solapur-Pune shuttle service
Solapur:
Due consideration would be given to introducing Solapur-Pune shuttle service in the forthcoming railway budget, said Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik, yesterday.

Naik said there was no proposal before the railway ministry to shift the present Solapur railway division to any other place.

M B Patil, Bijapur MP urged him to start a new train from Bijapur to Mumbai. The meeting was organised by Solapur Chambers of Commerce and Industries (SCCI).

SCCI president Premratan Damani, MP Sushilkumar Shinde, MLAs Narsing Mengji and Narsayya Adam also attended the meeting.

Sen remarks
Ahmednagar: The local unit of Republican Party of India (Ambedkar) denounced the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for its remarks about Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.

The RPI leaders also have demanded that those found guilty by the Justice Gundewar Commission in the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar firing incident should be tried for murdering innocents.

NSS camps
Ahmednagar: National Service Scheme (NSS) students in 122 colleges under the University of Pune completed various development works worth Rs 18 lakh during their winter camps, according to Scheme director at the University Ram Gambhir.

About 1.5 lakh students all over the State participate in NSS programmes, he said. These include 15,000-odd students of the Shivaji University and about 27,000 from University of Bombay. These students mainly undertake afforestation and construction of roads and water bunds.

Gambhir was recently in Sangamner for valedictory session of NSS camp of the Bhausaheb Thorat College. He pressed for a better coordination between the villagers and the NSS students.
