Dilip Kumar stable after bypass

MUMBAI, JAN 3: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar underwent a bypass surgery on Friday at Lilavati Hospital in the suburban Bandra in which six blocked arteries were treated successfully.

Earlier, he had been admitted to Jaslok Hospital with complaints of chest pain and uneasiness. An angiography test had revealed that the arteries leading to the heart had developed several blockages. Doctors had advised him to shifted to Lilavati Hospital where he was operated upon for the heart ailment.

The bypass surgery was performed by a team of doctors comprising noted cardiologist Dr Ashwin Mehta, Dr Ramkant Panda and Dr Nitin Gokhale. The operation lasted for five hours. Spokesman for Lilavati Hospital, Dr Mehta stated, ``The actor had a cup of tea this morning after a long restful night. He is currently undergoing breathing exercises and would be transferred from the ICCU in the next 48 hours. The star patient condition is stable.''

Dr Mehta further stated that the actor will be discharged within a week.Dilip Kumarstarted experiencing chest discomfort soon after Shiv Sainiks protested near his residence subsequent to his support to the controversial film Fire, raising speculations that he was perturbed with the agitations.
