Eight trains cancelled on Delhi-Ambala route

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Jan 3: Eight trains running on the Delhi-Ambala route have been cancelled for a month while two other trains have been diverted due to interruption of rail traffic by heavy fog.

Railway sources said the Kalka-Amritsar Passenger, which runs via Chandigarh and Ambala, will remain cancelled till January 31. Railway sources cite non-availability of a rake for the cancellation of this train.

The other trains cancelled include the Dadar Express, Jalandhar-New Delhi Express, New Delhi-Amritsar Express and New Delhi-Bathinda Express. The Flying Mail and Unchahar Express already remain cancelled.

The "up" and "down" trains on the Barauni-Amritsar route have been diverted via Saharanpur-Muradabad. These were earlier running via Panipat and Delhi.

Meanwhile, fog in the region continued to upset the schedule of trains. Reports from Ambala said the Howrah Express and Sealdah Express were late by 12 hours, while the Lohit Express was 11 hours behind schedule.

Five Shatabdi Express trains plying via Delhi-Ambala were up to an hour-and-a-half late.

The Amritsar-Howrah Mail, Malwa Express, Pooja Express, Barauni Express, Howrah-Kalka Mail, Muri Express, Dadar-Amritsar Express, Duplicate Howrah, Kashmir Mail, Deluxe Mumbai-Amritsar, Bathinda-New Delhi Inter-city, Amritsar-Mumbai Passenger and Sachkhand Express were late by two to seven hours.

Railway sources said the speed of all trains, which normally run at 90-110 km per hour, has, at instances, been reduced to 30 km per hour on account of poor visibility.
