Gangster confesses to many hold-ups

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
GURGAON, January 3: Notorious gangster Sunil alias Sandeep, who was arrested by the Delhi Police last month, has reportedly confessed his involvement in various incidents of robberies here last October. The other members of his gang, Brij Mohan alias Birju was gunned down in an encounter with the Delhi Police while Satish is still at large.

Sunil who was lodged in Tihar jail was shifted to Gurgaon yesterday for further interrogation. Senior Superintendent of Police, Khushi Ram Dahiya, said that the three-member gang of Sunil, Birju and Satish had made their first attempt in Sector-4 on the night of May 20. They allegedly tried to snatch a cash bag from a jeweller, Bishambar Dayal, who was sitting on the pillion seat of his son Pravin's two-wheeler. Their attempt was, however, thwarted. The SSP said that among their major catches was the looting a car of M/S Sunbeam Castings at Jaipur highway on October 6.

The gangsters followed the company car carrying about Rs 8.50 lakh withdrawn from a local bank, fired at the driver thus forcing him to stop the car and robbed the company employees. On October 10, the trio struck again. This time too they followed a car, the occupants of which had just withdrawn cash from the bank. A private contractor, Naresh Kumar, had withdrawn about Rs 4 lakh from the bank and as he was coming back to Anaj Mandi in his car, the robbers waylaid his vehicle, fired shots at the car shattering the windshield and looted the cash. Naresh's uncle, Daryab Singh who was following him in another vehicle tried to smash them with his car and even managed to injure one of the robbers by ramming the car into him.

However, they managed to flee. The police believes that many cases of robbery and theft would be worked out with Sunil's arrest.

This gang, the police said was involved in at least 200 cases of murder and robbery. While Sunil is a resident of Vinay Vihar in Delhi, Satish lives in Mangolpuri.
