Rohan, Gaurav rout Raja Shivaji for 66

MUMBAI, Jan 5: Rajhans Vidyalaya's medium pacers, Rohan Verma (5-23) and Gaurav Bhat (4-30) routed Raja Shivaji for a paltry 66 and set up an easy victory for their team in the pre-quarter finals of the Giles Shield Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament at the Cross Maidan here today.Rajhans knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets.

Sohail Adhikar of St. John the Baptist, Thane had an all-round role but his team lost to holders VN Sule Guruji English Medium. St. John scored 107 with Sohail contributing 33. Sule won by eight wickets and the two wickets to fall were grabbed by Sohail.

On a day when low scores were the order, two others bowlers returned with five wicket haul. St. Mary's bowled out Marwari Vidyalaya for 103 with left-arm spinner Siddharth Bhomar taking 5-15. St. Mary's scored the required runs for the loss of six wickets and Virendra took five of those for 63 runs.

St. Stanislaus 105 lost to Balmohan Vidyammandir 109-0 (Sunil Patil 39, Prathamesh Kanawaje 54).

Raja Shivaji 66 (Rohan Verma 5-23, Gaurav Bhat 4-30) lost to Rajhans Vidyalaya 67-2.

Vidyamandir, Dahisar 132 (Vikrant Gupte 4-42, Ameya Achrekar 3-32) bt St. Francis D'Assisi 59 (Aditya Sinkar 3-19, Tanmay Joshi 3-26).

HOC prevail

HOC Recreation Club overcame a gritty Larsen and Toubro 2-1 in the BHA Second Division hockey league, sponsored by Punjab National Bank, at the Naigaum Police ground, today.

Both the sides displayed excellent and clean hockey right through the 70-minute encounter. Ganesh Jawale scored the first goal with a direct hit following a penalty-corner to give L&T, comprising mostly veterans, the lead.But HOC equalised througha stroke which was awarded after Ronald D'Souza was stick-checked deep in the circle in the 22nd minute. Ronald himself converted the award. Avdhut Mhatre then came up with an opportunistic goal for HOC in the second-half, to seal L&T's fate.

Chitra bags gold

Chitra Parasnis claimed a gold medal in the junior girls category and a bronze in the Open section in the Maharashtra State rifle shooting championship held at Worli, recently.

A few months back, Chitra had bagged a silver medal at a National-level tourney in Punjab.

Chitra is a student of St Colomba High School, Gamdevi. She is being coached by Sanjay Chakravorty.

PDA victorious

Principle Director of Audit (PDA) won the Inter-Office Div B team championship in the ongoing Mumbai District Carrom Championship at Sharada Mangal Karyalaya, Dadar. In the final today they drubbed Oriental Insurance Company 3-0.
