Kodinar police said that Balubhai Rambhai Makwana was trying to acquire spiritual powers and had been fasting since the last four months in front of his chosen deity -- Revshi Mata -- in the village temple. On Monday, however, he decided to perform the ultimate act of sacrifice through the Kamal Pooja, by offering his head to please the deity. Police said that after performing some poojas, Makwana cut through his neck with a very sharp knife, at the deserted temple of Revshi Mata. According to Junagadh DSP K D Pathadia, the youth probably had some psychological problems and was under the impression that he could attain spiritual powers through worship. ``Any possibility of murder has been ruled out. It is a case of suicide performed as Kamal Pooja. We have called in apanel of doctors who also gave the similar opinion,'' Pathadia said.

PSI Karubhai Odedara, said that neighbours who noticed the temple door locked from the inside, notified the police who broke in. ``His head was not completely separated from the body and he died due to bleeding from the cut on his throat,'' police said.
