MUMBAI, JAN 5: Cash worth Rs 9 lakh was stolen from the premises of the Military Engineering Service (MES) office at Navy Nagar early on Tuesday.The money belonged to the Mumbai MES Employees' Society and was kept in a steel cupboard in the society office in the premises of the Assistant Garrison Engineer and Maintenance (AGE & M) establishment.The theft was discovered only in the morning when the chairman of the society opened the office. He discovered that the cupboard keys had been taken out of his locked drawer. The thief had sneaked into the office through an unbarred ventilator, taken the keys out of the drawer, opened the cupboard and escaped.
Military personnel suspect the theft to be an inside job. The case has been handed over to the Colaba police. Sources said the cash was collected from members of the society and brought to the society office to be deposited in the bank the next day.
