Delay by MiC rankles BJP leader in BMC

  • Arun Deo, leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has joined the opposition in raising doubts about the effectiveness of the Mayor-in-Council (MiC). In a letter sent to Mayor Nandu Satam on December 31, Deo wrote, ``I really wonder whether at all the MiC system is effective or still the entire system is going round in circles.'' What prompted Deo's letter was the four-year delay in issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) to a social organisation, Vivek Granthalaya, to construct a school at Deonar in north-east Mumbai. The delay occurred because officers of the solid waste management department, after issuing their NOC, forwarded the school proposal papers without specifically addressing it to the ward officer (estate). Later, the ward officer informed the granthalaya that the civic improvements committee should give its approval to the proposal. However, the papers have not been included in the committee's agendayet.
