VADODARA, Jan 5: As a part of `Road Safety Week' launched from Monday, the city traffic police on Tuesday collected Rs 19,000 as fines from drivers who did not carry their driving licences and `Pollution Under Control' certificates of their vehicles.During the drive on Tuesday, teams of traffic police, regional transport office, forensic science laboratory and SOCCLEEN checked more than 300 vehicles at Fatehgunj Circle in the morning and near the Sayajigunj police station in the evening.
The team also checked the students' driving licences in schools like Bhawan, Navrachna, Maharani Shantadevi and Vidyakunj.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police A R Munshi, traffic police teams on Wednesday morning would educate the public to avoid blowing horns in areas near SSG and Jamunbai hospitals. In the evening, the teams would paste `No Parking' stickers on vehicles parked in no-parking zones, he stated. A painting competition on traffic awareness would be held in Kamatibaug Children's park on Thursday and a free eye-checking of policemen, drivers of ST buses and autorickshaw would be held on Friday.
While an exhibition of traffic signboards would be arranged in Kamatibaug on Saturday, a quiz contest on traffic rules would be held in Rosary School on the same day.
The week-long traffic awareness programme will conclude with a rally of students drawn from various school on Sunday. The rally will start from Gandhi Nagar Gruh at 8 am and conclude at Kamatibaug at 10.30 am.
