One more nabbed in Amroli loot case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Jan 5: The Katargam police arrested a second person involved in the abortive loot at a flat in Amroli on Monday morning. Ajay Chetilal Kutar alias Premchand, aged 19, was taken into custody from the Amroli area of the city during the early hours of Wednesday. He confessed to be among the four who attempted to loot a house in the area.

Meanwhile, Manoj Kumar Gautam, 18 -- who was nabbed by the people, even as he along with three others, attempted to loot the house of Mukesh Kumar Shah -- was produced before a magistrate on Tuesday and remanded in custody till January 11. The police are now on the lookout for the other two, including one Raju, who is alleged to have masterminded the loot. Katargam PSI M R Patel is investigating the case.

The police are also trying to trace the mobile phone numbers that were recovered from Gautam, who speaks fluent English. Gautam is unemployed. The Katargam police said a Yamaha motorcycle (GJ 5 E 8329) used by the four to escape has been recovered from the Amroli area where it was found lying abandoned. According to the police, the vehicle was a stolen one and a complaint in the context had been registered in the Umra police a few months ago.

Kutar, the police said, was a native of Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh. While he had been residing at Raghuvir Society in Amroli for the past three months, he had got in touch with Gautam earlier. Kutar will be produced in court on Wednesday.
