NEW DELHI, January 5: Foggy days are likely to give way to rainy ones in the next couple of days. Snowflakes have finally landed in the upper regions of Jammu and Kashmir and a western disturbance is in the Capital's vicinity. The weatherman has detected rain clouds and the consequent end of fog and zero visibility conditions. While the sun shone generously this morning, the forecast for tomorrow predicts cloudy skies. ``Rain might be limited to a few showers tomorrow,'' said S.C. Gupta, Met director (Northern Region). ``But by the end of the week there will be more rain. The fog conditions will recede in the presence of the South-Easterly winds''.
The weather change would also spell the end of the 15-day trauma of air and rail passengers. The flight situation has already improved and fewer trains were cancelled or rescheduled. Night operations went on uninterrupted at the airport last night. International airlines rescheduled fewer flights and on the domestic front there were just a couple of flights that were cancelled. The reason, for a change, were operational and not the fog.
At the railway station, the only two trains rescheduled today were the August Kranti Rajdhani to Mumbai and the Brahmaputra Mail. The Lal Quila Express, which was cancelled for a month from January 4, was restored with immediate effect and the New Delhi-Jalandhar Express will be back on the tracks from Thursday.
