Where the mood was just right!

Ankit Pogula
The spirits were high, the atmosphere competent as students from around 200 colleges all over the country participated in Mood Indigo '98. Held from December 20 to 24, the 26th edition of the fest was won by the hosts IIT Powai, followed by Xavier's, Mumbai.

One of the major inter-collegiate festivals in India, Mood Indigo has always been an eagerly awaited event, the theme this time being `Bombayed'. Bonfires and groups of students singing and dancing till as late (or early!) as 4 am, or hanging out at the popular restaurant `Chinkoos' which catered till early hours of morning was a common sight.

From Pune we had Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Fergusson College, Wadia College, S P College, BMCC and Symbiosis Law participating. Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya very deservingly swept the fine art events and took the trophy. S P College won the Indian Folk Dance event and two prizes in Light Indian classical competition with Prajakta Joshi standing first and Rishikesh Ranade standing third. Nikita Chowdhary from Fergusson College won the first prize in charcoal painting. The college also bagged the second prize in Indian Folk Dance and Group Miming and a third prize in Western Vocals group.

Workshops like ballroom dancing really swept the students off their feet, which was evident by the large participating number. The informals and the Aqua games kept the spirit healthy and active.

Every tiring day was followed by an equally rewarding evening. The Zakir Hussain concert, wherein along with the Great Tabla Maestro, percussionists Shivamani and Taufeeq Qureashi, sarangi player Ustad Sultan Khan, tabla player Fazal, ghatam player Vikkoo Vinayakam and many other masters performed, left the audience in awe. The Silk Route night, santoor player Shiv Kumar Sharma's concert, singer Shaan highlighted the four day long galore. `Live Wire' the much-awaited rock show had bands like Moksha, Holy Grail, Nightmare On Elm Street performing.

The Maggi, Chinese and pav bhaji stalls, bands playing at SAC (Student Activity Centre), blaring music from `Chinkoos'... the hangover of Mood Indigo still prevails amongst the participants as they await another Mood-I to terminate it.
