January 6: Shardashram, English Medium's ten and jack staged a big rescue act, adding 31 runs for the last wicket as they squeeked past St. Joseph by one wicket to enter the quarter-finals of the MSSA Colgate Giles Shield Inter-Schools Cricket tournament at the Cross Maidan on Wednesday.The match looked like going St. Joseph's way when the ninth Shardashram wicket fell at 182. But Sadashiv Kashyap (18) and Karan Nande (19) changed the script with a doughty unbeaten stand of 31.
St. Joseph's were helped to their total by Naman Karia who scored 96 and was unlucky to miss the century. Amey Kangane's century (108: 18x4) and his 143-run stand for the opening wicket with Swapnil Ambure (38) ensured that Shardashram Marathi medium reached 277.
Leg spinner Ashwin Malawade picked up four wickets but his team, Don Bosco were shot out for 88 with Shardashram left-arm spinner Dinar Gaonkar capturing four wickets for just 15 runs.
Pankaj Ojha's superb all-round performance helped Rizvi Springfield defeat SV Patelby 54 runs. Ojha scored 71 with ten boundaries and then captured three wickets for 19 runs.
