VADODARA, Jan 6: The city traffic police booked as many as 70 vehicles on Wednesday for violating the `Silence Zone' near the SSG and the Jamnabai Hospital and recovered fine worth Rs 1,875 from them, as part of the week-long traffic awareness drive.Talking to Express Newsline, Assistant Commissioner of Police A R Munshi said that blowing of horns near the hospitals was not allowed, as these were demarcated `silence zones' to avoid inconvenience to patients, but unscrupulous vehicle drivers did not pay heed to the restrictions and blew horns, which were deafening and caused considerable discomfort and anxiety among the hospital wards.
He said the `silence zone' campaign was launched from 8 to 11 am and 5 to 6.30 pm in the evening.
More than 50 students of various schools of the city also participated in the traffic awareness campaign during both the sessions. They carried banners and placards reading `Silence Zone. Don't blow horns please'.
