Revenue dept cultural festival comes to an end

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, January 6: The curtains fell on the twelfth All India Central Revenue Cultural Meet today, amidst classical performances, prizes and jubilation. The three-day meet saw 188 participants from the North, South, East and West zones compete for the championship trophy, which was awarded to North Zone this evening.

An annual event, this Central Revenue meet is held to promote the cultural heritage of India and applaud the talent of the department's employees. In keeping with the theme of the meet, sitarist Debu Choudhary performed at the closing ceremony, lauding the efforts of the meet and urging people to ``have mercy on classical music'' and encour age artists.

But the man of the day was Commissioner of Central Excise (Delhi III) B.P. Srivastava. Leading from the front, Srivastava, egged on by his colleagues, gave a flute recital.

The musical evening ended with the awards distribution. Though North Zone won the championship, team and individual awards were evenly distributed between all the zones. Amidst loud cheering, the winners walked away with their trophies. And then there were some who couldn't hold back their tears, glad to have won. ``It means a lot to everybody,'' explained an official. The cultural meet it seems is about healthy competition, winning and losing.
