Kumaramangalam to commission Bhadravati power unit today

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, Jan 7: Union Minister for Power P R Kumaramangalam will dedicate to the nation the 1,000 MW HVDC inter-regional link station of the Power Grid Corporation of Bhadravati in Chandrapur district on January 8.

The HVDC station, linking the western and southern region grids, would be a vital step towards the formation of National Power Grid and will be Asia's largest HVDC inter-regional link station in the power sector, according to the Power Grid Corporation.

The corporation's regional office said the HVDC station comprises two poles of 500 MW each and the Ramagundam-Hyderabad 400 KV single circuit AC line.

State Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde and Union Minister for Forests and Environment Suresh Prabhu will be the chief guests for the function.

Besides facilitating power transfer in either direction (from the western to the southern region and vice-versa), the station will see better capacity utilisation of the generation in both regions and impart better stability to bothgrids.

Kumaramangalam is arriving here on January 8 by a special flight from Jaipur. He will immediately leave for Bhadravati to commission the power project.

After attending the function, the Minister will leave for Amravati by helicopter and inaugurate the Post Graduate Botany Department building of Amravati University at 3 pm on the same day. He will leave for Nagpur by helicopter and later in the evening, leave for Trichy by the special plane.
