NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Three policemen were today suspended for neglecting their duty at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium last night. The policeman stood by passively, even got photographed, as Shiv Sainiks dug up the cricket pitch in an attempt to prevent the January 28 India-Pakistan test match.While Sub-Inspector Tarkeshwar Singh is with the I P Estate police station, head constables Sushil Kumar and Santosh Lakra are Police Control Room (PCR) staff.
Commissioner of Police V N Singh said today that the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) had asked for a police force to man the grounds only from January 14, which is why there had been no need to have policemen on duty there earlier. Delhi Police was obviously not anticipating an incident of this nature.
Meanwhile, security has now been increased both inside and outside the stadium. There was a buzz of activity at Ferozeshah Kotla from the morning itself, as the grounds were swarming with policemen. All the gates also had additional security. Byaround 3 pm one company of the PAC also arrived. Each company has around 72 jawans.
