I will be there: Vinod Kambli

Joe Williams
PUNE, Jan 7: Although, he does not sprint as usual, he avers ``I will be there.''

The Indian top order batsman, Vinod Kambli rested due to an ankle injury, led Mumbai in the West Zone Ranji Trophy league this year. He is confident that his injured left foot has improved and by the time the World Cup probables are to be announced he will be fit for the call.

Kambli who holds the world record of over 400 runs partnership alongwith the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, has been in and out of the India side.

``I have no pain, but the doctor has adviced me some rest, and that was the reason for me to lay off from the Duleep Trophy,'' states Kambli who will lead the West Zone team in the forthcoming Deodhar Trophy later this month.

The cheerful look on his face is back, but the south paw is quite upset that his team, Mumbai, failed to qualify for the Super League. ``It's heart rending but one has to accept defeat as well, '' he adds.

He continues to wear the asymmetric pair of shoes ``it is quite comfortable and that is why I have them on,'' he says.

``The few occasions that I ran from the slips to the fence has done my sprinting ability a world of good,'' he added. Vinod Kambli did his job as skipper in their last match against Maharashtra scoringa a strokeful 85, and later took a wicket too.

The Wills Trophy being the next venture for Mumbai who are current champions, Kambli is certain that his team will retain the title ``we are the champions, and we will pay this defeat with a win there,'' he says.
