PUNE, Jan 8: Bombay Engineering Group(BEG) Kirkee had a comprehensive 5-1 win over Priyadarshini Sports Centre `A' in the seniors semi-final encounter while in the juniors division Goodwill Sports Club went down fighting to Priyadarshini Sports Centre `B' in the ongoing MHA Hockey league at the PCMC Poligras stadium today.BEG began well with players like Olympian Ajit Lakra, PD Barla and Naman Bage. Priyadarshini lads played defensively and managed to hold the BEG forwards with 1-0 in the first half through centre-forward Sagar Thakur. Sagar scored the second goal for BEG in the sixth minute of play on getting a wrong pass from PSC defender Vimal Benedict and soon after Sandeep Chande made it 3-0 for BEG.
BEG went on increasing the score tally with Naman (42) and PD Barla (47). Salim Shaikh scored the only goal for PSC as he converted a penalty stroke awarded by umpire Bhupinder Singh in the 55th minute when Vijay Benedict was wrongly blocked by the BEG defender Shyam Murti.
Earlier, PSC `B' made a fine start as centre Vinod Kellappan with a fine deflection scored the first goal in the second minute of play. Goodwill SC became overconfident and failed to stop the PSC `B' forwards who attacked the Goodwill defence many times. However, the first half saw only one goal and in the second half Goodwill forwards missed many scoring chances through Guneshekaran Tambi, Rocky Anthony and Sikandar Jaffer.
The second goal came in the 38th minute via penalty corner through Vinod Pillay. Defender Kiran Khairale reduced the margin in the dying moment for Godwill when he tapped the ball on Rocky's pass. PSC `B' are playing their first final of the season.
