Communications ministry decentralises powers

NEW DELHI, Jan 14 (pti) department of telecommunications today decided to decentralise power in a phased manner by delegating authority to circles in procuring 20 items which were earlier procured centrally.

A ministry notification was issued to this effect covering a range of articles including power plants, batteries of small capacities and some line and wire items.

Later, 35 more items have been added to the list of decentralised items for the next financial year.

Decentalisation of powers would enable telecom circles to match their requirements with speedy procurement and remove some of the bottleneck coming in the way of development of telecom facilities, it said.
