BSP joins CPI on tercentenary issue

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KHARAR, Jan 14: The state unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today joined the Communist Party of India in opposing the role of the state government and political parties in the Khalsa tercentenary celebrations.

Addressing mediapersons here, BSP general secretary Avtar Singh Karimpuri said the task of celebrating the tercentenary should be left to religious organisations.

He also appealed to the Akal Takht Jathedar to issue an edict calling for improved performance by the Akali government in the state. The government, he said, was ignoring the crisis in the farm sector and was devoting its energies to the tercentenary celebrations, adding that the Akali infighting had paralysed government functioning.

Karimpuri said the BSP would launch a two-week Shakti Banao campaign under which special conferences will be organised in all Assembly segments in the state. The campaign would culminate with a public rally.

The party would concentrate on Faridkot and Patiala parliamentary constituencies to break the political dominance of the Badal family and Capt Amarinder Singh, he added.

BSP state secretary Mann Singh Manhera demanded installation of traffic lights at the Kharar bus stand and criticised the anti-encroachment drive launched by the PWD National Highway wing.
