Be ready to safeguard Takht, appeals Tohra

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMRITSAR, Jan 14: SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra today called upon the Sikhs to be ready to protect the sanctity of Akal Takht, even as SGPC members loyal to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today started a signature campaign on an appeal to Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh for reviewing the hukamnama issued by him on December 31 last.

The Jathedar of Akal Takht in the meantime has called a press conference here tomorrow. Though Jathedar refused to speak to press today, it is believed he would respond to respective appeals in favour and against the hukamnama.

Tohra while addressing a congregation in Gurdwara Vaan Sahib said time had come when every Sikh should stand to get the Akal Takht edict implemented to protect the honour of the Takht. He said every hukanmama issued from Takht is word of almighty for every Sikh.

Tohra stated that disobeying the hukamnama was a grave guilt. He said Sikhs had the right to question those Akali leaders to whom they had given votes in the name of Panth.

Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, acting president of the SGPC, said that attempts were being made by certain vested interests to involve Akal Takht in controversies.

Bhaur said the state government had not taken any notice of excerpts published in a Punjabi newspaper from a book Vanity Incarnate, wheres the Senior Superintendent of Police, Roopnagar, S.S.Khatra, who had taken initiative to seize all the copies of book was transferred.
