CHANDIGARH, Jan 19: The Beant Singh assassination case today came up before UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi, with witness Amarjit Singh who used to stitch uniforms for accused Balwant Singh, identifying him in the court.Amarjit deposed before the court that Balwant often used to get his police uniform stitched from him. He also admitted that the bill book presented today in the court was maintained by him. He deposed that on January 20, 1996, Balwant was brought to his shop in the custody of CBI and that he had shown the bill book with the said measurement to the CBI and also attested the same. The witness today identified his signature on the bill book.
He also identified the photograph of Dilawar Singh and his signatures at the back of the photograph which had earlier been recorded in the presence of CBI.
During cross-examination, the witness stated that in his bill book he did not record details other than the name of the customer.
He further stated that he was not in a position to recall the name of his clients or the nature of clothes ordered.
Deposing further, the witness stated it was wrong to suggest that the memo in his bill book was bogus and fictitious and had been prepared by him at the instance of the CBI.
The witness identified Dilawar's photograph and attested it today.
