Saleem and Nancy get No 1 ranking

JALANDHAR, Jan 19: Mohd Saleem of Sangrur and Nancy Tandon of Patiala head the rankings of Punjab badminton players for 1998. According to Rajinder Singh Kalsi, general secretary of the Punjab Badminton Associations, the rankings were based on the performance of the players in the state championships and three major ranking tournaments.The seedings for 1998 Men's singles: 1 Mohd Saleem, 2 Gagandeep Ratti, 3 Jaideep Kohli, 4 Rohan Kapoor, 5 Neeraj Bansal. Men's doubles: 1 Chanderdeep and Gurmukh Singh and Manish Arora and Navdeep Singh; 2 Sunil Sekhri and Amandeep Sekhri and Gurminder and Narinder, 3 Dilpreet Singh and Tajinder Singh. Ladies singles: 1 Nancy Tandon, 2 Nazma Parveen, 3 Yogita Kaushal, 4 Meeta Bhandari and 5 Navdeep Kaur. Ladies doubles: 1 Nancy Tandon and Vidhu Vatrana, 2 Sapan and Sheel Bhagat, 3 Yogita Kaushal and Nazma Parveen, 4 Nirmata and Saloni, 5 Kamaljit and Kashmir Kaur. Mixed doubles: 1 Chanderdeep and Yogita, 2 Tajinder Singh and Nazma Parveen, 3 Narinder and Navdeep Kaur and Manish Arora and Meeta. Narrow win for PU Amritsar: Punjab University, Chandigarh beat Delhi University by a lone pointl in the inaugural match of the Inter-Varsity Softball Tournament here today.
