Uddhav mocks BJP brand of Hindutva

Shiv Kumar
MAPUSA, JAN 2: ``My Hindutva is better than yours'' appears to be the latest theme song of the Shiv Sena. With the BJP Government at the Centre and Bal Thackeray locked in an eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation over Pakistan playing cricket in India, competitive communalism is the newest ball game.

Addressing a gathering of party workers in Mapusa town, Uddhav Thackeray, Bal Thackeray's son and heir-apparent launched a direct attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, questioning its commitment to Hindutva. ``What kind of government is here where you cannot celebrate Makar Sankranti or Ganesh Chaturthi because of tension but full protection is given to Pakistani cricketers,'' he thundered.

In sharp contrast to his image as a soft-spoken sober politician, Uddhav in his hour-long speech raised the bogey of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism raising its head even in Goa while the Central Government remains a silent spectator.

``Why did they blast the atom bomb in April-May when they want to play cricket with Pakistantoday?'' he charged.

Uddhav also alleged that during the last Indo-Pak encounter at Bangalore during the World Cup, BSF troops were withdrawn from the Kashmir border to protect Pakistani cricketers. ``Whatever protection you are giving the Pakistanis, extend the same to the Kashmiri Hindus,'' he demanded.

Uddhav, who insisted that it was his followers who dug up the pitch in Delhi, denied that Sainiks were responsible for smashing the BCCI office in Mumbai.

The Goa Shiv Sena, which in its eleven years of existence has failed to win a seat in the Assembly, is now bent on creating a fear psychosis against Kashmir traders on Goa's beaches. ``They are not Hindus, how were they allowed to come here?'' Uddhav asked.

In his final salvo at national parties, Uddhav charged them with appeasing the minorities: ``Prime Minister Vajpayee, Sonia Gandhi and Mulayam Singh threw grand iftar parties but they ignored our Makar Sankranti,'' he alleged.
