AMRITSAR, JAN 27: Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) president Gurcharan Singh Tohra today summoned a meeting of the SGPC executive on February 15 amid reports that some supporters of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal were planning to approach the Gurdwara Judicial Commission (GJC) seeking an early meeting of the executive."The members will be informed about the agenda and venue of the meeting soon," SGPC secretary Surjit Singh Bhaur, who was suspended from the Shiromani Akali Dal last week, told reporters here.
The move by the Tohra camp is being seen as apre-emptive action to stall any bid by Badal supporters to approach the GJC and force Tohra to call a meeting of the 185-member general house in which the latter claims an overwhelming majority.
The latest move comes two days after Akal Takht jathedar Ranjit Singh asked 131 SGPC members to authenticate their signatures on an appeal for withdrawal of the December 31 hukumnama (edict) asking warring Akali leaders to halt infightingtill April 15 in view of the Khalsa tercentenary celebrations.
The members are to explain their position by February 11. Tohra had earlier ignored several appeals, including a demand by the two-thirds majority of the executive, to call the general house meeting.
