NEW DELHI, Jan 27: Former President Giani Zail Singh's 81-year-old widow, Pradhan Kaur, today moved court for a stay on the eviction order served on her by the Directorate of Estates (Litigation) on January 14. The bungalow has been allotted to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.Pradhan Kaur has filed the case in the Tis Hazari court and it will come up for hearing early next month. Pradhan Kaur is occupying a sprawling bungalow on the Circular Road in Chanakyapuri which she was asked to vacate by January 27. The house was originally allotted to Zail Singh when he demitted office.
``Gianiji spent his last days in this house. My grandmom is very old, she won't be around for too long so why disturb her now? The house is full of his memories. When all other former Presidents' wives continue to enjoy the same privilege?'' asks Gurinderjit Singh, Zail Singh's grandson who lives with Pradhan Kaur.
Pradhan Kaur continued to live in the type-VIII bungalow along with her grandson's family after her husband's death.According to the family, everything was going fine and nobody bothered them till the same bungalow was allotted to Sheila Dikshit when she became the Delhi Chief Minister.
``I met the Estate Officer R.S. Shukla on January 4. He claimed that they had sent us a letter allotting us a Type-VII house which never reached us. Instead we were sent an eviction order,'' says Gurinderjit Singh.
