BANGALORE, Jan 27: A splendid show of teamwork marked by attractive cohesion helped FC Kochin maul Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) 3-1 in a group `B' encounter of the third edition of the National Football League at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday. The win took FC Kochin's points tally to ten from five engagements, which left them placed second behind East Bengal in group `B' at the half-way mark of the league. ITI's tally remained at four from five outings.A scorching drive from 40 yards from the goal, which went through ITI goalkeeper Balaji's butter fingers gave the Kerala side the early breakthrough in the 11th minute. ITI's former star M Najeeb consolidated that lead striking once on either side of the interval. These goals effectively took the match away from the home side's grasp. An opportunistic strike by RC Prakash seven minutes from the final whistle came rather too late and only helped the Telephonemen reduce the margin of defeat.
IB upset Salgaocar
CHENNAI:The resigned looks of the Indian Bank early in the match gave way to joyful smiles at the end of it. A solitary goal win over Salgaocar in the Coca Cola National Football League championship at the Nehru Stadium on Sunday was worth much more than the three points in terms of having revived their sagging morale.
With two wins from five matches, IB will be breathing a lot easier.
