Scooterist crushed; CRPF jawan dies

CHANDIGARH, Jan 27: A scooterist was allegedly crushed by a truck while four others were injured in separate road accidents during the past 48 hours. In another incident, a CRPF jawan died at the Sector 17 Inter-state bus terminus here.

According to police sources, a Panchkula resident, identified as Mohit Mittal, was killed in an accident when his scooter was reportedly hit by a truck near the light point of railway crossing here today. Mittal was declared "brought dead" at PGI. The police have arrested the truck driver, Amar Singh for causing death by rash and negligent driving. Two persons were injured as a scooter and a motorcycle collided on the dividing road of Sectors 14 and 12 near the PGI Waterworks yesterday. The injured, Rajinder Singh and Ravi Chauhan, have been hospitalised.

Sector 21 resident Balwinder Singh was injured when his motorcycle skid in Sector 18 today. He has been admitted to the PGI.

In another accident which occurred yesterday, Kajheri village resident Ram Bahadur was hurt when his cycle was reportedly hit by a scooterist in Sector 42.

Meanwhile, a CRPF jawan identified as Arvind Kumar collapsed when he was waiting for a bus at the Sector 17 ISBT this morning. The police said he died before he could reach the hospital. Police sources said he apparently died following a heart attack.
