CHANDIGARH, Jan 27: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has held the Chandigarh Administration and the Chandigarh Housing Board responsible for a delay of four and a half years in allotment of land to complainant societies namely, Jeevan Aadhar Cooperative House Building Society and Blossom cooperative House Building Society.Disposing of both the complaints, the commission bench comprising president J.B. Garg and members P. Ojha and Sada Nand held the Housing Board liable for deficiency in services, stating that it collected 25 per cent price of the land and even the subsequent payments though it was not competent to hand over the possession in time.
The Bench directed it to pay interest at the rate of 18 per cent from the date of deposit of amount by the complainants till the time the chief engineer issued a certificate stating that the allotted site is fit for construction.
The Commission further allowed a rebate of 5 per cent to the complainants on total cost of the land. The respondents were also asked to pay Rs 4,000 as costs.
The Bench further held the Administration responsible for alloting the final site without verification.
