Chandigarh: Tenth permanent Lok Adalat will be inaugurated by Justice H S Brar, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab Legal Services Authority, at Moga on January 30. Disclosing this here today, S.S.Arora, member secretary stated that Justice R.L.Anand, Punjab and Haryana High Court will preside over the function. Karnal: Suspected burglars broke into two shops, situated at Bus Stand Chowk, here last night and took away cash worth Rs 10,000. The burglaries were noticed when the owners of Punjab Electronics and Ram Sarup and Sons opened their shops this morning.
Eye camp
Patiala: The Lions Club Patiala Citizen District 321-F will hold a week-long free eye camp from February 21 to 28 at Karhali village. Sukhdeep Singh Boparai and his team of doctors will perform the operations which will benefit people form 18 villages.

Land acquired
Hisar: The Haryana Government has acquired 1200 acre land to setup 1000 mw Thermal Power Plant here. Stating this here today, Minister of state for Power and Public Relations Attar Singh Saini informed that compensation has been paid to all those whose land was acquired for the purpose.
Research station
Ludhiana: The regional fruit research station of Punjab Agricultural University at Abohar has won the maximum number of prizes from among the government and university institutions, at the Punjab Citrus Show, 1999, held recently at Hoshiarpur. The research station bagged two first prizes and four second prizes.
Flagged off
Una: State Transport Minister Kishan Kapoor flagged off a semi-deluxe bus to Delhi from the local bus stand. The bus will start from Una at 8 a.m. and from New Delhi at 8 p.m. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government had added 162 buses to its fleet.
Campaign
Una: The state wing of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will launch a gaon chalo campaign after the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha. The campaign aims toeducate the people of the remote areas about the various employment schemes launched by the Central and state governments. This was disclosed by Jai Ram Thakur, MLA and state president of the morcha, at the PWD rest house last evening.
Mishap
Kapurthala: A six-year-old girl Suman was killed, while her father and maternal grandfather were seriously injured in a road accident near Mudowal village, on Tuesday. According to the police, the three were going to Gadani village on a scooter, when it collided with a tractor-trolley. The injured have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
Booked
Gurdaspur: The Pathankot police have booked a depot owner for selling kerosene oil in the block market. Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Kumar said here today that the accused Ramesh Chander of Sujanpur had been arrested and a case under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act had been registered against him. The police also recovered 150 litres of kerosene oil from the home of the accused during a raid, the SSP said.
Directory released
Gurdaspur: Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner S. K. Sandhu released the first copy of the district offices' telephone directory at a function held at his residence, here, on Tuesday. Sandhu said that the directory would save the time of the government officials and the public and also help improve the efficiency of the district administration. This 56 page booklet has been brought out by the district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society.
Sports mela
Moga: Punjab National Bank general manager S. K. Chawla inaugurated the three-day 44th Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Sports Mela which began here on Tuesday. He also announced a grant of Rs 20,000 for the promotion of sports. Hakim Singh of Saidowal village won the 1,500-metre bullock-cart race in 37.4 seconds, whoile Surjit Singh Bhinder was second and Gurmail Singh was placed third.
Ban
Bathinda: District Magistrate Sucha Ram Ladhar has banned for two months the assembling of five or more persons, holding of meetings and raising of slogans at all public places. In a circular issued here on Wednesday, Ladhar said the ban was enforced under Section 144 in view of the ``abnormal law and order situation in Punjab and in the district, and because of apprehension of damage to government and private property''.
Missing
Palampur: The wife of the ward panch of Rajhoon village in this sub- division is reportedly missing. According to the police, Sunita, who married Bikram three years ago, left for Dari (Dharamsala), her parents home, but never reached there. A case has been registered. She had disappeared earlier also but had returned home on her own. The pradhan along with other family members had approached the local police last evening and lodged a complaint, the police said.
