DHARAMSALA, Jan 27: A deputation of the Himachal Vikas Congress, led by senior party leader Sudesh Bhardwaj, called on Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and demanded implementation of 27 per cent reservation for the OBCs as was promised by the BJP in its election manifesto.Bhardwaj said here today that before the BJP the Congress party had promised 27 per cent quota for the OBCs but had failed to honour it.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the HVC leader demanded the setting up of the Block Development Office in Dharamsala as the panchayats of the sub-division had been attached to Shahpur, Kangra and Nagrota Bagwan sub-divisions causing inconvenience to the pradhans and public. He said Dhumal was urged to take neccessary steps to ensure upkeep and beautification of the War Memorial to attract tourists.
It may be recalled that the former union minister Rajesh Pilot had sanctioned a sum of Rs 35 lakh for the memorial and the money had been reportedly transferred to the state government for the purpose.
The HVC delegation demanded that a bus service should be started for Dharamkot from McLoedganj. Bhardwaj said Dhumal had assured due respect and priority to their demands after the HVC members lodged a protest for being ignored by the state government.
The Chief Minister had assured that the HVC workers would get suitable representations in the district-level committees constituted by the government, he said.
Bhardwaj said the BJP-HVC alliance government had done commendable work for the development of the Kangra district and added that the Congress government led by Virbhadra Singh had simply made announcements but had done nothing to put them into action.
Stating that the equation between Dhumal and HVC supremo Sukh Ram was very healthy, the HVC leader said that the BJP-HVC government would last its full term.
