Hindu Maha Sangh opposes Kerala ordinance
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, Jan 27: Swami Krishnanand, president of All India Hindu Maha Sangh and founder of Shri Naina Devi Gufa and Sadhu Ashram, took a serious view of promulgation of ordinance in Kerala, which is against the sentiments of Hindu religion. He said that India is a secular state and under Article 25 and 26 of the Indian constitution, religious freedom is assured. The ordinance of Kerala that gives right to the non-believers of Hindu religion to elect representatives of two devaswom boards has given a great jolt to the Hindu community. Before any decision on the promulgation of such ordinance was taken, public opinion either through the state assembly sittings or the worshipers of temples should have been sought, added Swami. He said that it is against the tenets of one religion that it should be managed or administered by the believers of other religion. This ordinance would be discussed and opposed tooth and nail by the All India Hindu Maha Sangh, he said. He said that the Kerala government should reconsider the ordinance and it should not be allowed to become law. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
