PANCHKULA, Jan 27: Several major state highways and district roads in Haryana have been declared as national highways by the central government, which would reduce the burden on the state exchequer and spur development works.Stating this after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of the 50th Republic Day here yesterday, Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal added that Rs 250.38 crore were being spent on maintenance of roads in the state during the current financial year.
Bansi Lal said the state government has drawn up a Rs 2,778 crore flood control plan to check the problem of water-logging and salination, which causes massive losses to crops in the state each year. Bansi Lal also said 810 industrial units are being set up in Gurgaon, which would provide employment opportunities to 36,000 people. He also said a chair in the name of Guru Gobind Singh would be instituted at Kurukshetra University. He also honoured Anuradha, a Panchkula resident, who had participated in Judo during the Bangkok Asian Games and Pinjore resident Sudhir Dhamija who had won gold medal at the National Children Science Congress at Chennai. He also released a book "Bharatpur Ka Rajnaitik Itihas", authored by freedom fighter Ram Singh Jakhar. Earlier, the chief minister reviewed the parade commanded by A.S. Dhillon, ASP Rohtak.
The IGP, Headquarters George, Deputy Commissioner Saroj Siwatch, SP Alok Mittal besides other district administration functionaries were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, three different functions were organised in SAS Nagar yesterday. In the main function held at the Senior Secondary School in Phase-3B-1, SDM, SAS Nagar unfurled the national flag. President of Mohali Municipal Council Harinder Pal Singh unfurled the national flag in a function organised in the office of the council in Phase-VI. The Lions Club Mohali celebrated the Republic Day at Raipur Kalan village.
