Six held in Gurgaon, 8 cases of robbery, shootouts solved

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
GURGAON, January 27: Coordination between the Gurgaon and Delhi Police has resulted in the arrest of six members of an interstate gang alleged to be behind a series of robberies and shootouts here and the southwest district of Delhi.

SSP Khushi Ram Dahiya said that the arrests were made last evening in two operations at Sector 14 and Naurangpur. Dahiya added that Anil of Delhi, Badal of Hisar and Brahmjit of Uttam Nagar were nabbed during a raid at the Huda Park in Sector 14 while Sombir of Bahadurgarh, Sushil of Uttam Nagar and Vinod of Alwar were arrested from near Naurangpur. The gangsters later reportedly confessed of planning to loot a petrol pump at Mehrauli Road and stone-crushers at Naurangpur last night.

Five other members of this gang Yogesh, Jagbir, Mahesh alias Attack, Ajit and Ajay alias Headlight managed to escape, the SSP said.

The police have claimed that this gang was involved in the looting of five liquor vends and the GPO, shootout at 32nd Milestone in October, robbery at Paco Automobiles in November, gunning down two persons in Sector-31, Bank dacoity at Najafgarh, robbery at Aggarwal Jewellers in Delhi Cantonment and firing at the house of INLD leader, Gopi Chand Gehlot.

DSP Anil Yadav said that during the questioning, the gangsters revealed their modus operandi. Jagbir, Headlight, Attack, Anil and Ajit were involved in the GPO robbery. After committing the crime they tried to flee in a Maruti car parked in a nearby alley but had to abandon it after ramming a rickshaw. While Anil boarded a bus, the rest dispersed, the DSP said.

The shootout at 32nd Milestone was apparently the handiwork of Jagbir and Yogesh who had gone there posing as the son of a commissioner and a security guard. Both were in an inebriated state and picked an argument with the hotel staff. The duo had opened fire on the manager of the hotel, Rajiv Kapool, injuring him seriously and two guards, killing one of them, the DSP said.

While the police are yet to the establish the motive behind the killings of Anoop Bhatia and his son-in-law, Amit Wahi, in the gruesome Sector-31 shootout on November 26, the interrogation has revealed that Anil, Yogesh and Jagbir were behind these killings. The family of the victims had alleged that one Ravi Sharma and his son, Saurabh of Rana Pratap Bagh in New Delhi were behind the killings due to long-standing enmity. The gangsters were also involved in lifting many vehicles from Delhi and using them in their robbery operations, the police said.

The Esteem car used in the robbery at the Pasco Automobiles and bank dacoity at Najafgarh was stolen from Patparganj by Sombir and they abandoned it later.

Another vehicle used in the robbery at Aggarwal Jewellers in Delhi Cantt was stolen from Vikaspuri, the police added.

The SSP said that the gangsters were also behind the firing incident at INLD's district president, Gopi Chand Gehlot's house.
