PFC set up title clash with OIC

CHANDIGARH, Jan 27: Punjab Financial Corporation and Oriental Insurance Company set up a title clash in the fifth Inter-Financial Institutional cricket tournament.

In the semifinal, OIC defeated Canara Bank by seven wickets while PFC beat PNB by 42 runs, in the second semifinal.

Brief Scores: Canara Bank: 130 (Charan Dass 31, Sandeep 2 for 20, Bhagrain 2 for 27); OIC: 131 for 4 (Sandeep 36, Vipin 22). PFC: 172 for 7 (Manoj 51, Deepak 44, Inderjit 31, Subodh 4 for 27); PNB: 130 (Subodh 58, Deepak 3 for 24, KK Madan 3 for 28, Manoj 2 for 14).

Cricket tourney
Kumaon Cricket Club will organise Kumaon cricket cup tournament from February 13.

According to a press release, the winner and runner-up team would get Rs 21 00 and Rs 11 00, respectively.

Apart from the first two positions, there are other attractive prizes in the fray.

The matches will be played on knock-out basis.

Entry close on February 9, with Chandan Singh, secretary KCC, at 8 H/9 PGI, Chandigarh.

Bhatia appointed
DV Bhatia, vice-president of Gymnastic Federation of India, has been appointed as a member of Jury of Appeal during the forthcoming National games to be held Imphal from February 14.

Badminton teamA five-member Chandigarh team including two in the women's section will take part in the Indian Oil Servo 63rd Senior National Badminton championships to be at New Delhi from February 4.

Monthly golf
Harmeet Kahlon received the best gross (74) while Girish Virk with a card of 78 was the runner-up in the men's category after the result to the January medal round were announced here today.

In the below 50 years section, Kranti Chaudhary with a nett score of 66 and Kabir Singh (70) received the awards.

In the 50-60 years section, both Col U S Rana and T L Verma had a nett score of 67 but Col Rana, with a better back nine, got the award.

Again, in the above 65 years section, Raghbir Singh and Col A S Sandhu were tied with a nett of 72 each but Raghbir got the award on the basis of a better back nine.
