US backs PM's steps on safeguarding minorities
Seemingly mollified by the swift moves by authorities in India to contain the attacks on minorities, the United States on Tuesday expressed it support for the actions taken by the Vajpayee government.

Republic Day was celebrated in Kashmir in its by now regular way - amid hartal call given by the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and fears of militant strikes. But, the fears were found to be baseless for the day turned out to be uneventful.
