Even on golf course, Jadeja's fan-following remains intact

Vineeta Pandey
NEW DELHI, January 28: Fame and fans follow cricketer Ajay Jadeja wherever he goes. Last weekend, Jadeja, for a change was seen swinging the club rather than a cricket bat. The occasion was the Automol Gold Golf Invitation tournament organised by BPCL. And while a lot of other celebrities like Prannoy Roy, Jyoti Randhawa, Harmeet Kahlon, Amit Dube, Digvijay Singh, Urvashi Sethi, Simaranjeet Singh, K.L. Tejwani and Karun Dubey, were also there in action, it was Jadeja who was the most sought after man. After a session of golf, Jadeja returned for lunch crowded by fans -- ranging from caddies to wives and children of corporate managers.

After obliging autograph seekers, Jadeja joined mediapersons for a brief chat. And for a change, every one wanted to talk about things `other than cricket.' Jadeja still likes the life he had few years ago going in College Specials, spending evenings in Khan Market with a bunch of friends and playing badminton.

But with passing time, the old life style has changed and he has stepped into the new lifestyle of an Indian cricketer. In fact, cricket is the thread that has served as a link between his two lifestyles.

Today, Jadeja may be out of the Indian team but the tag of being a demi-god, the reputation that cricketers enjoy in India follows him -- even on the golf course.

The golfer in Jadeja came forth a year back and since then he is a regular at golf clubs. ``It is just a way to relax. I often play golf to ease myself from the stress,'' Jadeja says with a smile.

About his role against Madhuri Dixit in a Hindi film, Jadeja said cricket remained his first priority. ``I have just done a photo session with her. Where is the time for films, when we are playing cricket all the time,'' he says. When asked about his photo session experience with Madhuri, Jadeja says with a smile: ``Well, Madhuri is actually very beautiful without make-up too''.

After a brief stint with golf, Jadeja is all set to resume his stint with his first love preparing for the Ranji Trophy Super League beginning next week. From then onwards Jadeja will sleep cricket and eat cricket.
