Munje case: Two girls file affidavits

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NASHIK, JAN 29: Two girls have filed affidavits in the Nashik court, accusing Bhonsala Adventure Foundation director Anand Munje of molestation during trekking expeditions organised by the Foundation.

The affidavits have been filed in connection with a defamation case brought by Munje against the local Mahila Hakka Saurakshan Samiti. The case is scheduled to come up for hearing tomorrow.

Samiti chairperson Sadhana Torne had called a press conference on January 9 to demand action against Munje after six girls filed written complaints with the Samiti on November 20 last year.

The Samiti members informed the secretary of the Central Hindu Military Education Society (CHMES), which runs the Bhonsala Foundation, on December 4 and gave the Society one month in which to probe the charges and take action against Munje. However, the deadline expired without any decision by CHMES, following which the Samiti accused the Society of shielding Munje. The Samiti had also alleged that a year ago, 39 girls had madesimilar complaints to CHMES, but were ignored.

Subsequently, CHMES appointed a three-member committee to probe the allegations. Action against Munje was to be determined at the governing body meeting of the CHMES on January 24. However, the governing body dissolved the panel on January 24, resolving to appoint a single-member committee in its place.

Munje for his part sued the Mahila Samiti for damages of Rs 1 crore for ``defaming'' him.

Munje is related to CHMES founder Dharmaveer Munje. In January 1998, Munje had led a campaign against Kulkarni, accusing the latter of fraud. Kulkarni nevertheless was later elected secretary of the CHMES.
