SRINAGAR, JAN 29: Unidentifed gunmen today shot at and injured critically the president of the Jamiat-i-Ahlihadees, Muhammad Ramzan, at Zampakadal in downtown Srinagar this afternoon.According to eyewitness, the incident happened some 20 minutes after the Friday prayers, when Ramzan who is also the Imam of the Ahlihadees Mosque in the locality, was shot at from close range by unidentified gunmen with a pistol, injuring him in the neck. Ramzan was immediately shifted to the SHMS hospital and later referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for treatment.
However, doctors at SKIMS said that Ramzan has been put on ventilator and his condition was stated to be serious. `` The bullets have badly damaged his spinal chord, for the time being, the patient has been given a few pints of blood and put on ventilator. The decision to operate will be taken tomorrow,'' said a doctor attending on him.
Jamiat-i-Ahlihadees, who practice the Imam Shafi School of thought has quite a good following inthe Valley. The outfit is very active with a wide network of mosques and madrasas all over the Valley. The followers of the outfit generally practice the hard brand of Islam.
