Gopi Chand triumphs

KOCHI: Top seed Pullela Gopi Chand and Manjusha Kanwar both of IOC clinched the men's and women's singles titles in the Petroleum Sports Control Board (PSCB) badminton tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Friday. Gopichand outplayed his IOC teammate Nikhil Kanetkar in the men's final 15-7, 15-4 while in the women's title clash Manjusha Kanwar had an easy time upstaging Neelima Choudhary (BPCL) 11-4, 11-8.

However, Gopichand partnering Kanetka in the doubles finals went down to teammate Jaseel Ismail and Marcos Bristow combine 7-15, 12-15 while PVV Laxmi and Archana Deodhar (BPCL) lifted the women's doubles title defeating Krishna Hazarika and Deepthi (OIL) 15-1, 15-6.

Event postponed

NEW DELHI: The 31st Junior Women's National Hockey Championship, scheduled to be held from February 2 to 6 at Gwalior, has been postponed. The Indian Women's Hockey Federation which had made the announcement earlier gave no reason for the postponement nor when it would beheld.
