Film-Buzz -- Delhi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Great Job
At the recently concluded IFFI '99 in Hyderabad, the most talked about and most sought after Hindi flick was Godmother directed by Vinay Shukla. Industry delegates raved about Shabana Azmi scintillating performance as the mafia leader. ``There's a folk song which has all these women in high spirits as they guzzle down pots of country liquor, Shabana is brutally realistic in that song, she's so convincing,'' says a senior producer. Inspired by the real-life story of Santokbehn, a local mafia leader in Gujarat who's currently languishing in jail, Godmother is the saga of a fiercely ambitious woman who gets what she wants. She rules the roost most ruthlessly and corruptly. Azmi urged the delegates: ``It's a thought-provoking film and I am playing an unusual role, you must not miss this one.'' No one missed it of course.

No Bitterness
Pooja Bhatt walked hand in hand with her latest beau Aly Khan on that evening when Screen celebrated excellence in cinema at the Andheri Sports Complex. There was also a jubilant Sohail Khan with his new bride Seema, radiant and happy. The two estranged loves, Bhatt and Khan, appeared to have become friends now. When the two came face to face, that is , as Pooja walked down the stage after presenting an award, one thought sparks would fly, but Sohail called out to his ex-sweetheart and complimented her most sportingly. Bhatt smiled impishly and hugged him back before getting back into the comforting company of Aly.

It was nice to know that true to their claims they have parted friends.

No No To Lolo
Chhote Miyan Govinda had a tiff with his blue-eyed gal, Karishma and he had sworn off the tantrum-loving Kapoor. Chi Chi had vowed that he would never ever work with his Heroine No: 1. But hip-shaker is quick to clarify, ``There was a small misunderstanding between us which we have sorted out now. Karishma is like a member of the family to me, I have nothing against her,'' assures Govinda. But nowhere does he say he's game to team up with her again. That's Govinda-style diplomacy for you folks. He won't hurt you too much. But he'll have his say alright.

Tear-Jerker
Rani Hindustani or Karishma Kapoor may have had no-show last year but this year she's set to rock moviedom with her histrionics. Recently when we bumped into the blue-eyed babe at a preview theatre where Sooraj Barjatya had arranged a special screening of the rushes of his under-production opus Hum Saath Saath Hain. Kapoor was all misty-eyed: ``I just couldn't hold back my tears during the emotion-charged scenes. When I looked around, I found everyone had tears in their eyes. Frame by frame it's an impressive film, I am looking forward to this one,'' she says.
