COA told to stick to team for National Games

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Feb 2: The participation of Chandigarh judokas in the forthcoming National Games to be held at Manipur from February 14 has taken a controversial turn with the Civil Judge (Junior Division) Chandigarh restraining the Chandigarh Olympic Association from holding any further trials and asking them to include only those judokas who were selected in the previous trials.

Some selected players moved court apprehending their omissions after they found that COA had mentioned different names for granting of railway concessions from Chandigarh to Dimapur. However, K S Sahota, secretary, COA was not available for comments.

The court today served notice to the members of the selection committee appointed by COA, for next hearing on February 6.

The COA selecting committee comprised of SN Vohra, secretary, Chandigarh Hockey Association, JPS Sidhu, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration, Vijay Pal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, Reet Mohinder Singh, Deputy Director Sports, Punjab University.

It may be recalled that two separate factions of Amateur Judo Association of Chandigarh held respective trials for selection of the team. The COA objected to this, and conducted joint trials on January 12 to select the 16-member Chandigarh team including seven women.
