KOLHAPUR, FEB 10: Pradeep Ganpat Bakare, a panch witness in the sensational case of kidnapping and murder of children by Anjanabi Gavit and her two daughters Renuka and Seema, who appeared before the court on Wednesday got confused while making statements regarding sold ornaments panchanama resulting in a verbal tiff between public prosecutor and defence advocate.Deposing before the additional sessions Judge G L Yedke, while replying to the cross-examination conducted by defence advocate Manik Mulik, panch witness Bakare stated that a panchanama of gold ornaments sold by accused Renuka to Pune-based goldsmith was written totally according to description narrated by the concern goldsmith.
Bakare identified accused Renuka and disclosed before the court that she was the same lady who informed him at CID office Kolhapur on November 23, 1996 that a small girl child was kidnapped by them from Mahalaxmi temple here on April 22, 1995.
During the investigation, the kidnapped girl's name was revealed as Shradhaand the accused called her Bhagyashree, who belonged to Kolhapur, and was murdered by the accused later.
Renuka also told that the girl wore gold earrings and silver anklets, which she (the accused) sold to a goldsmith at Pune in lieu of Rs 800.
