Four held for bid to run car over constables

PUNE, Feb 12: Four youths - Bandu Kalbhor (35), Jalindar Pakhare (25), Salim Abbas Shaikh (22) and Sachin Parande (22) were arrested after they attempted to drive their car over head constable G W Deshmukh and his colleague near Giridhar Hotel in Nigdi following an altercation over petty matters early on Thursday.

Around 12.30 am, the policemen spotted the youths standing near their parked car. When they asked the youths to clear out, they refused and a heated argument ensued. The youths then got into the car. Bandu Kalbhor who was at the wheel then allegedly charged at the two policemen.

Nabbed: Three youths of Vaidu Vasti, Pimple Gurav village were arrested by the Chatuhshrungi police within an hour after they manhandled and robbed a couple in Aundh yesterday evening.

Police said around 7. 30 p.m. on Thursday, Samindar Ajit Singh Bhatti of Sangvi and his wife Jasbir had stopped near Employees State Insurance Scheme Hospital, Aundh. Prakash Lokhande, Chandar Shinde and Musla Lokhande, relieved the Bhattis' of Rs 160 in cash and a wrist watch.

Bhatti approached the policemen at Aundh police chowkey immediately after the robbers fled. The policemen, who swung into action combed the area and arrested the trio.

Thefts: Booty estimated at Rs 39,000 was stolen in separate thefts in city. Nagnath Changdeo Katkar of Warje Malwadi has been arrested by Hadapsar police on the charge of stealing a colour television set along and remote control from the residence of Suvarna Barguje at Hadapsar. Katkar forced entry into Barguje's house while its occupants had gone to visit their relatives at Parali Vaijanath in Beed district, police said.
